The Maltipom is a designer breed crossed between a Maltese and a Pomeranian. Though not much is known of the origin or history of this breed, the Maltese and the equally gentle and highly intelligent Pomeranian are both characteristics prominent within this hybrid.

Appearance and Grooming

Like many mixed breed dogs, the overall appearance can vary.  In general, you can expect your new puppy to have a long, flowing coat of straight, soft hair like that of the Maltese parent with the face, ears and stature of the Pomeranian parent. The most common colors include white, black, orange, red, cream, or any combination of these colors. Categorized as having non-shedding or hypoallergenic coat means that this dog is a good choice for allergy sufferers.

This hybrid is a gentle, affectionate dog that loves to be around its family and will typically form a stronger bond with one particular member of the family. It also exhibits a protective nature sounding an alarm through barking when it’s alerted to strange noises or people.  They are sociable and well behaved with other pets and people if socialized at an early age.

Family and Companionship

These dogs are naturally good with children that are kind to them, though they can become a little dominant and territorial toward other pets, especially dogs, in the household. They expect a lot of attention and so won’t do well within a household where it is left alone for long periods of time.

The Maltipom needs plenty of activity and mental stimulation to keep them from developing problematic behaviors like barking, chewing and digging.  A 30-minute walk daily and plenty of play time and should make for a happy and healthy puppy.

Training and Socialization

This intelligent dog generally responds well to training. However, this breed like many smaller dogs has a tendency to become dominant and may develop small dog syndrome. It important to use a firm and consistent hand in training, yet not be overpowering where your pooch is afraid or loses trust. Socialization and training should be started at an early age to prevent the development of problem behaviors.

Yes, this breed gets along well with all members of the family. If there are small children present, please be mindful to supervise play as this breed is small and can easily be injured by overly excited children. Make sure all kids are taught how to handle dogs gently before making introductions or having play sessions.

Like many small dogs, the Maltipom is prone to excessive barking. However, this can be calmed through proper training and socialization starting at a young age.

Similar breeds include the Maltipoo, the Morkie and the Peek-a-Pom.

The Maltipom is recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club, the Designer Dogs Kennel Club, the International Designer Canine Registry and the Designer Breed Registry.

The most common colors for Maltipom’s include white, black, orange, red, cream, and any combination of these colors.

The Maltipom was first bred here in the United States.

I received G sometime in August, best thing that has happened so far in 2018!! I was skeptical at first since I've never ordered a pup online - AN AMAZING job done by Premier Pups. Their instructions were clear, their starter kits were perfect and they were very responsive when I reached out. G has adjusted well and we LOVE him. He loves to play, cuddle and nibble on fingers (since he's teething). He almost 4 months and weighs 2.9 lbs, exactly what I expected as a "teacup". I will check back in a few months to provide an update on his growth! I will be purchasing G's mate from Premier pups in the future. Great Job!

Such a wonderful dog for our family. We couldn’t have been happier with the process or the puppy. Our puppy was healthy and well adjusted to kids and other animals when he arrived home. I would recommend working with this group to bring home a puppy.
